Govan Brewery Market
design concept
The Govan Brewery Market is not your neighbourhood typical brewery. It’s a Self-Sustaining Civic Building that is motivated and supported by the involvement and engagement of community. The Govan Brewery Market houses 3 main spaces, the Market, a Beer Hall and a Brewery.
All 3 spaces are highly dependent on one another, such as supply chain, customers and contributors alike. This scheme is highly inspired by several programme case studies and is supported by the 4 pillars of strength; Social, Cultural, Educational and Economical.
As the Brewery Market relies upon the involvement of the community, both for the microbrewery to operate and the market to sustain, social interaction will naturally be introduced with the building. The Brewery Market invests in sharing knowledge and expression as well. Featuring a transparent brewery house, a multipurpose exhibition hall and also an open performing platform, the GBM acknowledges the importance of sharing and expressing.

Social
As the Brewery Market relies upon the involvement of the community, both for the microbrewery to operate and the market to sustain, social interaction will naturally be introduced with the building.

Cultural
The drinking culture in Glasgow, also the rest of UK is prominent and well-known internationally. This can be further proven with the supporting statistics of the drinking habits of Glaswegians. Hence, having a brewery market celebrates the identity and culture of the community.

Educational
The Brewery Market invests in sharing knowledge and expression as well. Featuring a transparent brewery house, a multipurpose exhibition hall and also an open performing platform, the GBM acknowledges the importance of sharing and expressing.

Economical
Following the self-sustaining scheme, the Brewery Market relies its supply chain on the community which in turn lowers the cost of operation. All activities proposed within the GBM are of mutual relation, hence no conflict of interest would surface. This promotes a healthy business.
